Sector research programme

Twelve sector decision briefs, before any sector ranking.

Each brief sets a cross-market decision frame, access route and stopping condition. It does not say that a sector is attractive, active or relevant in every country.

Research boundary

No generic corridor label becomes a commercial recommendation.

A sector can receive a country-specific status only after dated evidence establishes a decision question, a source trail, a time horizon, uncertainty and an editorial owner.

Twelve research areas

Every country uses the same decision lenses.

01 · Cross-market Review

Agri-food and food systems

Food-system opportunity must be read through import conditions, processing capacity, cold chain and buyer economics rather than regional demand language.

Route to test

Start with a defined product and buyer route: processor, distributor, foodservice operator or retail chain; then test labelling, certification, temperature control and local margin structure country by country.

Gate

Do not infer an import route from aggregate food-trade data. Product classification, veterinary or phytosanitary requirements and importer capability require current local confirmation.

02 · Cross-market Review

Industrial manufacturing

Industrial entry depends on a specific value-chain role, technical qualification and service capability; broad manufacturing growth is only context.

Route to test

Map who specifies, procures, installs and services the offer. Compare an OEM/distributor route with direct key-account development only after the local technical and warranty burden is known.

Gate

No factory, procurement or localisation conclusion follows from investment-promotion material without a named project, buyer and technical requirement.

03 · Cross-market Review

Energy and transition

Energy and transition are procurement-led sectors: a stated target or resource potential is not equivalent to an accessible supplier mandate.

Route to test

Separate utility, private industrial, donor-financed and EPC-led pathways. Screen the offtaker, tender route, bankability, grid or fuel constraint and local delivery requirement before business development.

Gate

Only dated project documentation, sponsor authority and applicable qualification rules can support a commercial pursuit decision.

04 · Cross-market Review

Mining, materials and metals

Mining and materials require licence, processor and logistics evidence; resource narratives alone do not create an addressable commercial market.

Route to test

Identify whether the offer serves exploration, extraction, processing, environmental management or downstream manufacturing, then map the decision maker and service/warranty burden.

Gate

Do not treat geological potential, commodity price movement or a project announcement as a buyer mandate or a compliant import route.

05 · Cross-market Review

Transport and logistics

The Trans-Caspian route is a research context, not a service promise: reliability, border process, terminal capacity and operator performance vary by movement.

Route to test

Model a real shipment lane, mode, incoterm, commodity and time window. Compare alternatives on lead time, handling, documentation, claims exposure and contingency rather than on corridor labels.

Gate

No delivery time, freight price or customs-clearance claim is valid without a current quotation and route-specific operator evidence.

06 · Cross-market Review

Construction and infrastructure

Infrastructure is a route-to-procurement question: public, donor, SOE and private developments have materially different access and compliance paths.

Route to test

Classify the project and implementing entity, then evidence budget, procurement stage, local-content requirement, qualification and delivery partner needs before allocating outreach resources.

Gate

A policy plan, corridor strategy or feasibility discussion is not a tender, funded project or supplier invitation.

07 · Cross-market Review

Digital, ICT and innovation

Digital demand can grow while adoption, data readiness, payment rails and procurement practice remain uneven; technology fit must be translated into a country buyer case.

Route to test

Choose one buyer problem; enterprise, public service, fintech, e-commerce or industrial digitisation; and test the data, integration, local support and procurement requirements.

Gate

Do not infer a deployable market from internet usage, startup publicity or regional AI narratives; verify legal, hosting and buyer conditions locally.

08 · Cross-market Review

Healthcare and life sciences

Healthcare and life sciences require a product-specific regulatory and institutional route; regional health priorities are not market authorisations.

Route to test

Distinguish public procurement, private-provider, distributor and donor pathways. Map registration, reimbursement, clinical evidence, installation, training and servicing before approaching institutions.

Gate

No medicine, device, diagnostic or digital-health conclusion can be made without the current national authority process and an eligible local route.

09 · Cross-market Review

Financial and professional services

Financial and professional services are regulated, trust-led and counterparty-specific; macro growth does not establish a lawful service route.

Route to test

Define the exact service, target client and delivery location, then determine whether the work requires local licensing, a permitted cross-border model or a regulated partner.

Gate

No tax, banking, payments, insurance or investment-service recommendation may be made from country context alone.

10 · Cross-market Review

Consumer, retail and lifestyle

Consumer entry is a price, channel and compliance problem before it is a branding problem.

Route to test

Test one category and one city or buyer cluster, then compare distributor, marketplace, specialist retail and hospitality channels with a landed-price and merchandising model.

Gate

Do not extrapolate demand from social media, urbanisation or regional retail examples; validate local channel economics and product rules.

11 · Cross-market Review

Tourism and hospitality

Tourism and hospitality demand must be linked to named assets, operators and procurement cycles; visitor-growth narratives do not create a supplier route.

Route to test

Identify whether the offer belongs in destination development, hotel operations, foodservice, experience design or travel distribution, then map the actual owner/operator decision path.

Gate

No hotel, resort, event or operator is a target without current ownership, timing and procurement evidence.

12 · Cross-market Review

Education and skills

Education and skills markets are institution-led: learning demand, accreditation, language and procurement route must be proven together.

Route to test

Separate employer training, public education, university collaboration and direct-to-learner models. Identify the purchasing institution, recognition requirement and local delivery responsibility.

Gate

No programme, partnership or learner-demand claim is sufficient without the relevant national and institutional evidence.
