Türkiye’s labelling guidance and restaurant transparency rules raise the bar for consumer-food launches

Türkiye’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry updated its Food Labelling and Consumer Information guide in March 2026 and introduced ingredient and calorie-information requirements for national-chain foodservice from 1 July. The update gives brands, importers and foodservice suppliers a clearer operating frame for product information, menu data and channel preparation.

Verified facts

  • The Ministry announced on 13 March 2026 that the Turkish Food Codex Food Labelling and Consumer Information Regulation guide had been updated to support consistent implementation and official-control assessment. Guidance and an announced update do not decide whether a particular SKU, label, claim, image, language, ingredient, allergen, nutrition statement or pack complies.
  • Ministry reporting stated that from 1 July 2026 national-chain foodservice businesses would make ingredient and calorie information available before ordering through menus, displays, digital screens or QR codes. A sector-wide measure does not establish that an individual restaurant, item, supplier, recipe, menu statement or information system meets all requirements or has commercial access.
  • The Ministry’s food-import material identifies statutory and administrative controls and a GGBS registration sequence for relevant product groups. It does not demonstrate that a product is in scope, that its producer/exporter/importer record exists, or that an application, inspection, document set or shipment will be accepted.
  • Official-control material describes QR-based transparency and control activity. A QR programme or public enforcement framework cannot certify an unrelated product, restaurant, retailer, distributor, shipment or buyer route.

Horizon view

The update reinforces the value of SKU-specific consumer-information and channel evidence for Turkish retail and foodservice. The commercial unit remains one product, recipe or lot linked to a named accountable food business, importer, facility and channel, with a current documentary and operational route.

Commercial implication and next step

Before a sample, menu presentation, quotation, retailer/distributor approach or shipment, compile a controlled product-and-channel file: formulation/ingredients/allergens/additives and intended use; producer/facility/exporter/importer; exact pack and label/language/claim/nutrition/date/traceability evidence; channel and menu/digital-information requirement; GGBS/import/inspection/document route; custody/storage/cold chain; buyer specification; price/tax/FX/payment; recall, complaints and insurance; acceptance and exit. Do not describe a guide, QR or calorie-information measure as label approval, import clearance, restaurant listing, buyer interest or sale readiness.

What to verify before acting

The sources do not establish product classification, manufacturer/facility/importer eligibility, GGBS record, label compliance, inspection or laboratory result, customs release, menu acceptance, retailer/restaurant listing, buyer authority, price, payment, contract or transaction. This is not Türkiye food-safety, allergen, nutrition, labelling, marketing, customs, tax, insurance or legal advice.
